The internationalization strategy has marked, since its origin, the life of the Institution. The main markets that CESPU elected are the Portuguese-speaking, namely Angola, where it was constituted the “CESPU Training Angola” SA” where we participate in the EAP - Educational Projects in Angola, promoter of the newly approved Polytechnic Institute of Benguela. Later, we started cooperation with Cape Verde, in particular with their public university, UNI-CV and the National Institute of Civil Protection. Recently, it was crated “CESPU Brazil, SA”, that aims to develop specialized training and higher education.
Alongside, CESPU has been strengthened its presence in the Iberian market by “CESPU Europe, SA”, based in Spain, and by the historic partnership with the University of Barcelona translated in the integration of CESPU in the project Campus of Excellence for Health UB HUBc, and the development of IINFACTS, an institute dedicated to research and advanced training in sciences and health technologies.
The institution has also sought to develop internationalization strategies in Europe, using the LLP / Erasmus program - for the mobility of students and staff (teaching and non-teaching) within the European space. More information - consult the International Relations – Erasmus Service.
The Erasmus Program is a sub-program of Lifelong Learning Program (LLP) which aims to support the creation of an European Higher Education Area and to reinforce the contribution to the higher education and advanced vocational training in the process of innovation across Europe.
The Erasmus Program supports the mobility of students and both academic and non-academic staff in Europe. It also promotes the relationships among Higher Education Institutions through Intensive Programmes, Academic and Structural Networks and Multilateral Projects.

Mobility / inter-institutional cooperation activities are coordinated by the Erasmus Office. This service is led by an Erasmus institutional coordinator who works directly with the Erasmus pedagogical coordinator of each program and the academic authorities.
The Erasmus institutional coordinator has to celebrate bilateral agreements with foreign institutions; manage the exchange of CESPU students, teachers, researchers and staff; organize the activities of reception and integration of foreign students, teachers, researchers and staff.
The Erasmus pedagogical coordinators have to select the candidates to mobility programs; define the Learning / Training Agreements and ensure its academic recognition; provide pedagogical support to incoming students; collaborate in the activities of reception of incoming students, teachers, researchers and staff.
Standard mobility (studies, placements, teaching assignments, staff training), Intensive Programs, networks and other cooperation projects are key factors for CESPU development and are promoted by the Erasmus office and the pedagogical departments by email, social networks, collective and personal meetings. Support and recognition measures are specified in CESPU regulations and are published well before the projects beginning, in order to inform/prepare the stakeholders. Results dissemination and exploitation are made by the website and communicated in collective sessions.

The responsible for establishing and implementing inter-institutional agreements is the Erasmus Institutional Coordinator, with acknowledge and approval of CESPU direction. Proposals can be made by CESPU Erasmus Pedagogical Coordinators, teachers and students or foreign institutions. The first ones already have instructions to select partners based on geographical diversity, compatibility of the academic profiles (level, curricular programs) and main regulations. Teachers and students from CESPU as foreign institutions’ proposals must be presented to the Erasmus Office, in person or by e-mail (sara.gama@cespu.pt). Then, the Erasmus Institutional Coordinator follows it to the respective pedagogical departments to be evaluated according to the same principals. . During the length of any of the agreements the Erasmus Institutional Coordinator and CESPU Quality Office monitor and evaluate the cooperation developed (based on quantity and quality) and determine if it shall be renewed.

c. Required Documentation
The Erasmus Service will add the transcript of records to these documents.
Mobility is ensured by the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), based on the principle of mutual recognition of the value of training undertaken and competences acquired.
Full academic recognition means that the period of study abroad (including examinations and other forms of assessment) replaces a comparable period of study at the home university (including examinations and other forms of assessment), although the content of the curriculum can vary.
Before students going abroad, CESPU defines their Learning / Training Agreement in collaboration with the host institutions. At CESPU, the In CESPU, the responsible for preparing these plans are the Erasmus Pedagogical Educational Coordinators.
At the end of the mobility the host institutions must issue a Transcript of Records / Work with the number of credits and the grades achieved by the student.
According to ECTS system, when students successfully complete the workload required and the assessment of the learning outcomes as previously agreed, credits are transferred to their degree program (studies and curricular placements mobility) and to the Diploma Supplement (studies, curricular and extra-curricular placements mobility).
If the student makes a traineeship at an enterprise, the workload is measured in credits and fully transferred by the same procedures. The results are expressed in groups of competencies, which determine the knowledge that the student will have their capabilities and skills matching to the predefined objectives of training.
The required language(s) proficiency is previously agreed with our partners and it's used as one of mobility programs selection criteria, which implies previously preparation before being selected to go abroad. CESPU has partnerships with Lancaster College and Aliance Française (languages teaching companies) where participants can enroll in multiple languages courses. After selection and placing, the Erasmus Office organizes several meetings for discussing mobility related issues - we highlight culture, language(s), in and outside opportunities to achieve the required language(s) proficiency, and useful networks. The Erasmus office provides information about EILCs in host countries, schedule, application procedures and deadlines. Please visit the webpage about Languages at CESPU to know more.
Selection as an Erasmus student does not guarantee a mobility grant. The awarding of scholarships depends on the funding CESPU receives from the Portuguese National Agency every year. All the selected students are automatically candidates for an Erasmus grant. If CESPU funding is insufficient to assign a scholarship to all the selected students, it may need to apply award criteria. The main criteria to be considered will be the socio-economic situation of the student, by confirming whether or not they are beneficiary from Social Services.
The amount of the Erasmus grant is fixed annually for each country, according to the reference table defined by the National Agency.
A student who does not receive an Erasmus grant can make the Erasmus mobility nevertheless, but will have the status of an "zero-grant" Erasmus student, with the same rights and duties of all the students who have grant.
Every student can benefit from an Erasmus grant for a study period and from an Erasmus grant for a placement, during his academic course.
The student who receives an Erasmus grant and do not get any academic achievement during the mobility period, must return the entire grant received, except in cases of force majeure, duly justified.
Students with socio-economic difficulties can apply for a Supplemental Erasmus Grant (BSE-SOC).
Students are eligible if they cumulatively receive an Erasmus grant, awarded by the respective higher education institution (HEI), and are fellows of Social Action in Higher Education.
The application process is done by the Erasmus Office, according to the information that will be disclosed in due course, to all the selected students.
Students with disabilities benefit from special conditions of mobility, such a superior grant amount. More complete information about the mobility of students with disabilities may be obtained at the Erasmus Office.
During the Erasmus mobility, the student continues to pay the respective tuition fees at CESPU. The student national grants and loans, shall not to be canceled or suspended, including the Social scholarship.
The Host Higher Education Institutions cannot ask the student any tuition fees (for tutoring, examinations, access to laboratories, etc.). However, small payments for insurance, student unions, photocopies, laboratory products can be charged, as normally charged by the home institution.
Information about CESPU and Portugal (application procedures, institution, main features and regulations, how to get to the Campuses, accommodation, food, visa and insurance requirements, student social networks) are available at the institution website and are sent by email to incoming participants soon after receiving the official nomination. Incoming participants have a personal counseling meeting at the Erasmus Office, are invited to request a “Buddy” student and to participate in: Collective Presentation Sessions, Portuguese Intensive Course, Social/Scientific Activities. Regularly monitoring and mentoring support for incoming participants is given by the respective pedagogical departments along their staying and the Erasmus Office, through face to face meetings, phone and email.

It is a fixed amount (per diem) by country of destination, calculated based on daily rates, and according to the duration of mobility. These values are a contribution to the additional expenses incurred in the performance of the mobility abroad, such as accommodation, food, local travel, insurance, visa costs, telecommunications, internet, etc..
It corresponds to the actual values of the outward travel and return. Travel expenses are reimbursed when properly supported, upon presentation of respective invoices, tickets and boarding passes, and up to the maximum amount set for the heading "Travel" at the reference table from the National Agency.
